Backyard Habitat Certification Program
Create a Certified Wildlife Habitat:
Over the course of four in-person meetings, we will guide you through the hows, whys, wheres, and whens, of ecological landscape design for your specific property. Upon completion of the program, you will have learned how to provide sustainable sources of food, water, and habitat for wildlife. Other topics covered include: natural communities, invasive species identification and management, native plant selection, and many more. Not only will you be helping the environment, but you will also qualify to become an official Oakland Conservation District Certified Wildlife Habitat, complete with yard signage. NOTE: Preregistration required. Please bring a laptop or tablet to each class meeting.

Supply Water for Wildlife
Wildlife need clean water sources for many purposes, including drinking, bathing and reproduction. Water sources may include natural features such as ponds, lakes, rivers, springs, oceans and wetlands; or human-made features such as bird baths, puddling areas for butterflies, installed ponds or rain gardens. |
Give Wildlife a Place to Raise Their Young
Wildlife need a sheltered place to raise their offspring. Many places for cover can double as locations where wildlife can raise young, from wildflower meadows and bushes where many butterflies and moths lay their eggs, or caves where bats roost and form colonies. |
